The aim of Notre Dame education is to train young people for unselfish leadership so that the students we educate will be able to change the oppressive structures of society by standing for justice and human rights. They are "to assist their fellow citizens in
directing their lives to God in faith" by helping, healing, reconciling, and taking a firm stand on moral principles of honesty, integrity, hard work and freedom.
The parents and guardians are expected to be active participants in training their children in the moral and spiritual values which the school tries to foster.
By the end of her education in Notre Dame Academy, each student will have developed those values that not only enrich her personality but which will help bring about a change in the present set-up of society where there will be equality and justice for all. Therefore , the following values are considered to be of prime importance.
(a) A deep inter-relationship with God that permeates her daily life and her contact with others.
(b) Personal and group prayer to God whom she considers to be her loving Father.
(c) Acceptance of and respect for all religions.
(d) Deepening and broadening of her religious convictions.
(a) Realizing that she belongs to a country that is rich in cultural heritage, she develops patriotism and pride in India.
(b) As part of the school family, she specially develops awareness of the needs of others and responds both to their spoken and unspoken wishes/demands by generously giving of her time, talents, and service.
(c) She inculcates in herself those social virtues which are a genuine response to others; responsibility, courtesy, honesty, punctuality, loyalty, obedience, womanliness, purity, generosity and diligence.
(d) She integrates herself readily with others of various social, religious cultural, and national backgrounds.
(e) As a citizen of the world , she takes a keen interest in
what is happening in other countries and easily discusses and
empathises with the social and economic conditions prevalent in
them.
Every Notre Dame student must be imbued with the fact that she
is living in a very unjust society and that she must do all win
her power to bring about a radical change in the present social
structures. Therefore, she must develop;
A genuine love for the poor and needy. She must
programme regular sessions during the week in which she has some
positive contact and communication with the poor, the illiterate,
the needy and suffering.
A loving concern for different types of oppressions
suffered by women, minorities, underpaid laborers, and weaker
sections of society.
Proficient speaking and writing ability so that she can use her talents as platform to speak and write against any injustices and oppressions suffered by others, applauding their achievement whenever possible.
A willingness to involve herself in programmes, projects, camps, workshop, etc. in which she will be actively involved in helping the financially poor or deprived sections.
(a) An on-going quest for knowledge and sharpening of her memory,
speed and accuracy.
(b) Acquisition of the following skills; observing, recording,
quoting, illustrating, demonstrating, analyzing, outlining, summarizing,
integrating, evaluating and analysing.
(c) Power of expression through speaking, writing and acting,
debates, dramatics, elocution, extemporaneous speeches, dance,
music, creative writing, and artistic expression.
(d) An inner discernment which guides her to choose the correct values even when there is an opposition between home and school training or between society and school.
(e) Physical exercise, sports and athletic skills which help her develop a sound mind in a sound body.
